Ephesus' Ancient Greek name is written as Ἔφεσος'' and read as Ephesos. Ephesus is call in Turkish: Efes. Today we believe it may ultimately derived from Hittite word Apasa. Many scholars claim around ten century B.C. city was named after Aphasas the warrior queen of Amazons. Later this female name became associated with mother goddess cult of Ephesus, Turkey.
